A vacuum pump is a device that removes gas molecules from a sealed volume in order to create a partial vacuum. Vacuum pumps are used in a variety of applications, such as air conditioning, refrigeration systems, medical equipment, vacuum coating, process engineering and vacuum packing. Vacuum pumps come in many different designs, including rotary vane, piston, diaphragm and turbine models. They can also be powered by electric or pneumatic motors.
